Biography
Dr Shim is a gastroenterologist with a special interest in functional gastrointestinal disorders including functional dyspepsia, reflux hypersensitivity, chronic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome. She obtained her medical qualification (BSc (Med), MBBS) at University of New South Wales and went through physician and gastroenterology training at Concord Repatriation General Hospital and Nepean Hospital in NSW. She subsequently undertook Masters of Philosophy through University of Sydney by undertaking a research focusing on anorectal dysfunction in chronic constipation whilst being a motility fellow at Royal North Shore Hospital. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physician in 2009.
She is currently a visiting medical officer and honorary clinical lecturer at Macquarie University Hospital. She also holds position as a visiting medical officer at Concord Repatriation General Hospital where she runs an oesophageal function clinic and performs oesophageal high-resolution manometry and 24hr pH studies. Dr Shim is currently a member of the Gastroenterology Society of Australia, Australian Neurogastroenterology and Motility Association, Australian Medical Association and American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr Shim's research interests involve the understanding of the pathophysiological process of functional gastrointestinal disorders and its psychological manifestations. She has had multiple publications in the area of chronic constipation and irritable bowel syndrome and currently has research trials involving laryngopharyngeal reflux and functional dyspepsia.
