Biography

Maren Tomforde is a political anthropologist and Global Affairs scholar. She is the Head of Global International Relations at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College in Hamburg, Germany. In this role, she contributes to the college's mission of providing advanced, postgraduate education to staff and general staff officers from Germany, NATO countries as well as many non-NATO countries around the globe. The aim is to foster strategic dialogue and a better understanding of today's contested global security environment - especially in the Indo-Pacific.

Additionally, Maren is an Honorary Postdoctoral Associate at the Department of Security Studies and Criminology at Macquarie University, Sydney. Her research delves into the complex power dynamics and security challenges in the Indo-Pacific in an increasingly multiplex landscape. Maren follows a multifaceted approach to understand global reordering processes. This lens not only illuminates the interconnectedness of modern security challenges but also provides crucial insights into the complexities of 21st-century international relations.

Maren has studied Social and Cultural Anthropology as well as International Relations at the Universities of Hamburg, Münster and Paris (Jussieu).
