Biography

Dr Farida is a lecturer, researcher, and cultural consultant. She is currently a Lecturer in Terrorism Studies in the Department of Security Studies and Criminology at Macquarie university. She has also served as a consultant for Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) programs in CSNSW. Dr Farida has been awarded her PhD in Security Studies and Criminology in 2019. Her research interest includes Middle East politics, non-state groups, terrorism, and political violence. Her research has been published in journals such as International Review for Social Research, Journal for Policing, Intelligence, and Counter Terrorism, and Handbook of Terrorist and Insurgent Groups: A Global Survey of Threats, Tactics, and Characteristics.  In addition, She is also a member of AVERT Research Network (Addressing Violent Extremism and Radicalisation to Terrorism) and Counter Extremism Hub. She also authored the book Religion and Hezbollah: Political Ideology and Legitimacy (Routledge 2020). In addition to being Middle East expert, Dr Farida also became a point of reference for several journalists and News channels such as SBS, ABC, and other media channels in matters pertaining the Middle East in general and terrorist networks in particular . Currently, She is developing a podcast with SBS channel on the history of Arab migration to Australia.
