I am a plant ecologist/ecophysiologist working on a range of topics from drought-stress vulnerability of trees to forest ecosystem functioning in a changing world.
My particular interests are to understand the mechanisms that allow trees to cope with environmental stress, such as drought and nutrient limitation. Using functional wood anatomy and tree hydraulic methods we can trace the way of the water from the roots through the stem into the leaves and learn about how trees regulate these processes to cope with challenging situations. Currently I am leading a research project to investigate hydraulic strategies of dry forest trees and how adaptable these species are to changes in water availability. This helps to access their potential for reforestation and ecosystem restoration under global change scenarios. Further projects I am involved are:
