Michael is a passionate educator and the current Learning and Teaching Coordinator in the Department of Marketing, Macquarie Business School at Macquarie University. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), a Certified Practicing Marketer (CPM, AMI) and a Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute (FAMI). With over 20 years’ experience in higher education, he places the student at the centre of his endevours and is a recognised and award-winning leader in teaching and learning. Michael has received numerous international, national and institutional awards for his contributions to tertiary education. In addition to over a dozen VC and Faculty teaching, learning and service awards, he has received the 2015 ANZMAC Distinguished Educator Award, 2013 Australian Award for University Teaching, the 2019 and 2017 WJC Banks Award for Distinguished Contributions to Teaching and Learning and the 2018 ASCILITE Innovation Award. These awards demonstrate his sustained excellence and high-level contributions to marketing education in creating inclusive, student-centred, engaging learning environments and curriculum transformation shaped by teaching scholarship that inspires students. His passion is, and always will be, students, their success and support, and is driven by a desire to ensure all students have an exemplary education experience.

Michael’s main research interests are in the areas of consumer behaviour and teaching and learning. His consumer behaviour research appears in leading international journals including European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Consumer Marketing, Journal of Marketing Communication, Marketing Intelligence and Planning and Australasian Marketing Journal. Michael is a co-author on the leading international textbook in marketing, Principles of Marketing (Australian edition), with Gary Armstrong, Sara Denize, Stewart Adam and Philip Kotler. His research in the field of teaching and learning appears in a number of leading international journals including Education + Training, International Journal of Pedagogies and Learning, Information Technology, Education and Society and Australasian Journal of Educational Technology.
