Biography
Dr Miles Yang earned his PhD from the UNSW Australia Business School, University of New South Wales in 2015. His research critically examines the traditional belief that “stretch goals” universally enhance organizational performance. His pioneering work, published in leading journals such as Organization Science and the Journal of Management Studies, demonstrates that these goals do not consistently drive success and can, at times, be counterproductive. With a portfolio of over 30 peer-reviewed publications in ABDC A* and A-ranked journals, including five in FT50 and four in A* categories, Dr. Yang's research has not only shaped MBA curricula but also questioned widely accepted managerial practices. Expanding his academic inquiry, he has explored the effects of AI in the gig economy, integrating data science, entrepreneurship, and HR management to examine the impact of algorithmic management on both managerial decision-making and gig worker behaviors. His findings, which have gained broader recognition through media collaborations with outlets like Business Insider Australia and SBS, underscore the relevance and impact of his research in both academic and public spheres.
Dr. Yang's contributions have been acknowledged with numerous awards, including the prestigious 2023 MQ Excellence in Research Award and the ANZAM Early Career Researcher Excellence Award. His leadership in securing research funding is evident in the acquisition of over $700,000 in grants. A leader in interdisciplinary research, Dr. Yang has authored over 15 cross-disciplinary publications with 51 co-authors, 78% of whom are international, highlighting his influence across the fields of strategic management, AI-assisted decision-making, data science, entrepreneurship, and HRM.
