Atif is an academic in the Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance at Macquarie University. Previously, he has held academic positions at Essex Business School (UK) and Griffith Business School (Australia).

Atif's research interests include corporate governance (executive compensation, board dynamics and diversity), CSR, and firm’s disclosure and auditing practices. His research has appeared in several peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Accounting and Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Business Ethics, among others. His research has been featured in media outlets (e.g., Forbes and The Conversation) across Europe and the US.

Atif is an ad-hoc reviewer for many journals including the British Accounting Review, Accounting and Finance, and Journal of Corporate Finance, among others. He is a recipient of several internal and external research grants. He also supervises research students. Prior to joining academia, Atif has worked as a senior audit officer in the financial sector for several years.
