Biography

Associate Professor Nazmul Huda currently holds the position of Director of Education within the School of Engineering. He possesses a rich and extensive background, amassing over 16 years of experience that spans across academia and industry-based projects. Over the past decade, Dr Huda has played a pivotal role in several key growth initiatives within the School of Engineering. Notably, he was instrumental in establishing a number of PG courses.

He joined Macquarie University as one of the founding academics in the establishment of the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and played a key role in developing the curriculum ensuring its firm grounding in sustainability principles. Additionally, Dr Huda has taken on leadership responsibilities related to the School of Engineering's HDR (Higher Degree by Research) portfolio. This includes overseeing processes for admitting PhD candidates and managing scholarship programs.

Dr Huda has used the design and development of numerous courses to educate and inspire a generation of new Engineers in the practice of sustainability in topics such as energy, resources recovery, circular economy, life-cycle analysis, recycling, and end-of-life considerations in product design in both UG and PG areas.

Prior to joining Macquarie University, Dr Huda completed a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) from BUET. His strong passion for computational fluid dynamics in addition to developing novel solutions for industrial problems prompted him to continue his postgraduate research leading to a PhD. After completing PhD, he continued his Postdoctoral research for nearly two years funded by CSIRO and Outotec.

Dr Huda is an internationally recognized researcher in the areas of urban mining, industrial ecology, circular economy, and life-cycle engineering. Dr Huda also actively participates in the review panels of various international funding bodies, including those in Switzerland, Mauritius, and Kazakhstan. He is a member of Engineers Australia (Mechanical College) and the Australasian Association of Engineering Education (AAEE).

He is currently a member of the Faculty Board in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and also serving the role of Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports published by Nature.
