Nicholas Kakaroubas is a Master of Research (MRes) student within the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Macquarie University Centre for Motor Neuron Disease Research. Prior to his Master's degree, he completed a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Genetics) with University of New South Wales, Australia. In the final year of Nicholas competed in the UNSW 2018 iGEM team, conducting synthetic biology research and presenting it at an internaitonal conference. After his experience with iGEM, Nicholas went on to work as a research assistant where he focused on Motor Neuron Disease (MND) pathogenesis. This experience pushed him to study MND further at Macquarie University in an MRes with supervisor Dr. Emily Don. Nicholas has a keen interest in combining synthetic biology principles with medical science.
