For over twelve years, I served as a support scientist and an Ecologist for the U.S. Geological Survey, Wetland and Aquatic Research Center in Lafayette, Louisiana, USA and the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry, in Hilo, Hawai’i, USA.  I have conducted research in a variety of coastal ecosystems of the Southeast United States, Asia and many islands in the Pacific.

Research interests

I have studied wetland structure, productivity, disturbance, nutrient cycling, invasive species impacts, foodweb dynamics, surface elevation change, wetland vulnerability, greenhouse gas efflux and water use efficiency in tidal forests and marshes.  My research focus is to better understand coastal sedimentation, soil surface elevation change and restoration processes in saltmarsh and mangrove ecosystems.
