Biography
Nuria Lorente is co-lead of the Research Data & Software section and head of the Software Engineering group in the AAO.
Her 25-year career has taken her around the world, from CSIRO's Australia Telescope National Facility, to Jodrell Bank Observatory and the Astronomy Technology Centre in the UK, ESO in Germany, and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in the USA.
She has a wide range of experience in algorithms and software primarily for optical and radio astronomy applications, and has particular interests in algorithms for object and path finding, data simulation and modelling, and the development of computing and software engineering within the research community.
Nuria has worked on a number of high-profile projects and instruments, including leading the development of the science data model on the ALMA telescope, instrument and data simulations on the JWST/MIRI space telescope, and leading the AAO Data Pipeline development and maintenance project for the ESO VLT telescopes.
More broadly Nuria is heavily involved in the international astronomy software community, and is currently serving on the committees for the Astronomical Data Analysis Software & Systems (ADASS) and SPIE Software and Cyberinfrastructure for Astronomy conference series.
