Biography

Dr. Patricia Koromvokis holds the position of the Lecturer in the Modern Greek Studies Program at Macquarie University in Sydney. Additionally, she serves as the Head of one of the largest examination centers of the Certificate of Attainment in the Greek language. Patricia is a linguist with experience in second language acquisition and intercultural communication. She has been awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence for her doctorate thesis. Dr. Koromvokis has been at the forefront of various initiatives, research projects, and international collaborations, all geared towards advancing innovative approaches in the teaching and learning of the Greek language. One notable example of her work is a research partnership established in 2021 with the largest Greek-Australian aged care facility, which received funding from the Multicultural Ministry of New South Wales. This initiative addresses the imperative need to cater to the inclusive linguistic and cultural requirements of bilingual aged care recipients. Dr. Koromvokis has played a pivotal role in organizing international educational events. She has participated in national and international conferences in the organizing committees and as a keynote speaker. She is a member of the Outreach and Engagement Committee of her department. Her main goals are promoting Greek education abroad and building bridges with Greece.

She has been shortlisted in the Greek International Women Awards 2023 in the category of Education & Psychology.

Research interests

Areas of her professional interest include Greek language and linguistics, applied linguistics, second language learning and teaching strategies, morphology and syntax interface and teaching Greek language for professional reasons.

Teaching and Leadership

Patricia is the Head of Modern Greek Studies Program since 2020. Through her leadership role Patricia organises events of valuable external outreach and impactful international collaborations.

Community engagement

Patricia is an active member of different Greek community organisations in Sydney. She is the key speaker of many cultural events organised by the Greek community and often writes articles for the Greek Australian newspapers.
