Rohan Best is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Macquarie Business School, Macquarie University, where he has been a faculty member since 2018. He holds a PhD from the Australian National University, a Master of Economics from Macquarie University, and a combined Bachelor of Commerce (Actuarial Studies) / Bachelor of Applied Finance, also from Macquarie University.

Rohan’s prolific high-quality research includes more than 50 refereed journal articles published since 2021 alone, appearing in leading journals including Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Ecological Economics, Applied Energy, and the Energy Journal, among others. His work has been recognised with a Finalist award for Early Career Researcher of the Year (HASS) at Macquarie University in 2021, a Top 5 paper award from Environmental and Resource Economics, and an Honourable Mention for the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics Best Paper Prize.

He has secured competitive research funding from sources including Macquarie University's Research Productivity Support Scheme, the NSW Government, the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), and the E61 Research Institute. Rohan actively contributes to the broader academic and policy community through roles on advisory and executive committees, including the Academic Advising Committee for the National Electricity Market Review and is a member of the Transforming Energy Markets Research Centre.

Before his academic career Rohan brought significant industry experience to his research, with seven years in actuarial and investment consulting at Russell Investments, and analytical roles at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences.

Rohan is unit convenor and lecturer at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels including Firm Behaviour and Strategy, Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Economics, and Applied Topics in Microeconomics. He has also supervised several PhD and MRes candidates.
