Biography

Over the many years, my research career has spanned multiple disciplines including food and enteric microbiology, marine microbiology, molecular biology, pollination biology and systems, evolutionary ecology, and virology. My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology at North South University (Dhaka, Bangladesh), where I also completed an Honours thesis focused on food microbiology. Later, I pursued an MRes at UNSW. Sydney, investigating the metagenomics of understudied lakes in the Vestfold Hills of East Antarctica. I went on to complete my PhD at Macquarie University where my research explored how local environmental factors - such as mean annual temperature, mean annual precipitation, average summer wind velocity, and land use/pasture - interact with pollen diet (ITS2 metabarcoding of corbicular pollen) to shape the gut microbiome (16S rRNA metabarcoding) and viral diversity (total RNA metatranscriptomics) of two introduced pollinators, the European honeybees (Apis mellifera) and the buff-tailed bumblebees (Bombus terrestris), across the diverse landscapes of Tasmania, Australia.

I am deeply fascinated by the ecological and evolutionary processes that shape the world around us, particularly host–environment interactions involving invertebrates and their microbial assemblages. Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Freshwater Ecology and Ecotoxicology Lab at Macquarie University. In this role, I am investigating the ecology of microbial and stygofauna communities in groundwater and surface water systems across New South Wales, Australia.

Looking ahead, I aim to continue building a research career that integrates molecular ecology, microbial symbioses, and environmental change, with the goal of advancing both ecological understanding and conservation outcomes for sustainable agriculture, pollination, water quality and biosecurity.
