Dr. Muhidin is an applied demographer, with a PhD degree from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. He has extensive national and international experience, having held key academic and research roles including Postdoctoral and Research Fellows at the University of Queensland, as well as appointments at renowned institutions such as Brown University (USA), Université de Montréal (Canada), IIASA-Austria, and the University of Indonesia.

Dr. Muhidin’s research focuses on human resource management, business demographics, projections of population and labour market, population mobility/migration and skilled labour, and its broad societal impacts, with significant projects across Asia (notably Indonesia, Bangladesh and Iran), West Africa (Burkina Faso and Ghana), and Australia. His comparative studies on internal migration have been influential, contributing to global discussions on population dynamics, including background research for the 2009 UNDP Human Development Report.

Dr. Muhidin’s scholarly work is widely recognized, with publications in several high-ranking journals. His recent research highlights include examining trends in Indigenous entrepreneurship in Australia, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the labor force, population mobility, and child and maternal health, as well as addressing climate change challenges in Bangladesh and Indonesia. 

Dr. Muhidin is an active participant in global academic forums, regularly contributing to the Academy of Management (AOM), the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), the Australian Population Association (APA), the Population Association of America (PAA), reinforcing his standing as an internationally respected scholar in applied demography. He is also an active member of prominent associations, including the IARNA – Indonesian Academic & Researchers Network in Australia (Coordinator for NSW).
