Biography

Dr. Samran Sheriff is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation and serves as a teaching academic within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences, and the Faculty of Science and Engineering. His research expertise spans clinical ophthalmology, dementia neuroscience, implementation science, and the application of genomics in primary care.

Dr Sheriff completed his Bachelor of Medical Science and Master of Orthoptics at the University of Sydney in 2015 and the University of Technology Sydney in 2017 respectively. This was followed by a combined MRes/PhD at Macquaire University funded under the MQRES scholorship. Samran's PhD thesis titled " Structural and Functinal Correlates of the Visual System as marker of Aging and Neurodegenerative Changes in the Brain" was ranked in the Top 5% and awarded the prestigious Vice Chancellors Commendation for Academic Excellence.

Following this, Dr Sheriff undertook postdoctoral training at the esteemed Woolcock Institute, where he advanced his research on dementia, particularly its association with sleep disturbances.

Research student supervision

Dr. Sheriff currently supervises students in the MQ Doctor of Medicine Program, Bachelor of Clinical Science and PACE research rotation students. Topics include Improving waitlist times for both specialist and surgical interventions in Australia and retinal nerve fibre assessments in neurodegeneration.
