Personal profile

I have a background in global health, epidemiology, and women’s and children’s health.  My current research focuses on population-based approaches for the prevention of undernutrition and overweight and obesity in children, particularly in implementing effective strategies to achieve optimal growth in early life and influence the health trajectories of the next generation. I also have experience in monitoring and surveillance strategies, program evaluation, public health nutrition policy and community based approaches to improve healthy eating.

I have worked in a variety of contexts and in public health projects in India, Vietnam, Thailand and Bangladesh. One of the main projects I have been involved in is the Mirpur Shishu Pushti Project in Bangladesh. The project which stemmed from my PhD research is testing an extended peer counselling intervention to improve the prevalence of breastfeeding and appropriate complementary feeding practices and reduce rates of malnutrition in infants and children in urban Dhaka.

My previous roles included Senior Research Fellow at the Prevention Research Collaboration at the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney and also the Research Translation Coordinator for the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Early Prevention of Obesity in Childhood (CRE-EPOCH).
