Personal profile

Research interests

I am a Doctoral candidate in International Studies: Languages and Cultures at Macquarie University. My doctoral research focuses on the use of literature in second language education. I explore methods of employing literary texts in Russian language didactics with a particular focus on 21st century Russian narrative and Intermediate levels of language instruction.

In my research, I attempt to further the half-century-long debate on the methods of language-literature instruction by turning, on the one hand, to theoretical and empirical research on second language reading and, on the other hand, to contemporary conceptualisations of literariness, including the latest cognitive, psychological and neurocognitive theories of literary reading. I examine how current research on reading and advances in literary theory can shed light on the process of second-language literary reading and enhance methods of employing literary narrative in second language education.
