Dr. Stella Polido is a research scientist with over 10 years of benchwork experience−5 years of which have been dedicated to spearheading two projects that focus on unraveling protein function in both physiological and pathological conditions especially linked to neurodegenerative diseases, in the hopes of bringing us closer to finding a treatment. She aims to bridge scientific discoveries to people around the world and endeavors to further the advancement of science towards its purpose – to create a meaningful change towards the lives of the people who need it.

She obtained her bachelors in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of the Philippines Diliman and then moved to Finland to pursue her masters in Protein Science and Biotechnology at the University of Oulu and the University of Helsinki.  She then obtained her PhD at the Max Planck Institue of Chemical and Molecular Biology and the Biochemistry of Neurodegenerative Diseases Department at Ruhr University Bochum. Her most recent research involves characterizing the role of the N-terminal prion protein domain in DNA damage response and investigating cross-aggregation of the prion protein and TDP-43.
