Biography

Stephen Hanly is a Professor in the School of Engineering at Macquarie University. He has a Ph.D. degree from Cambridge University, U.K, and he was a Post-Doctoral Researcher and member of Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, USA.  He has held teaching and research positions at the University of Melbourne, at the National University of Singapore, and he has been at Macquarie since 2012. 

Stephen is a Fellow of the IEEE. He is internationally known in research on wireless communications, with over 150 research publications. He is a recipient of the INFOCOM Best Paper Award, the IEEE Information Theory Society and the IEEE Communication Society Joint Paper Award, and the IEEE Communications Society Tutorial Paper Award. He has been an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications and a Guest Editor of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas twice. He has taken major roles at several IEEE conferences and workshops, including the IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory (ISIT), and the IEEE Communications Theory Workshop (CTW). 

Stephen is the Discipline Lead in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering teaching program, and part of the leadership team in the School of Engineering.
