Biography
Associate Professor Saghaie is an interventional pulmonologist and respiratory physician with a special interest in diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy, pleural disease management, and the multidisciplinary care of lung cancer. He graduated from Tehran University in Iran in 2003 and has since pursued his passion for interventional pulmonology through connections at internationally renowned centres such as Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States and Thoraxklinik in Germany.
He is an active member of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) and the American Association for Bronchology and Interventional Pulmonology (AABIP), amongst many others.
A/Prof Saghaie has been involved in medical education for over 15 years. In his current role as Deputy Director of Medical Services at MQ Health, he provides mentorship and support to junior medical officers, MD students, and senior trainees.
Internationally recognised for his contributions to interventional pulmonology, A/Prof Saghaie has played a leading role in IP training, first-in-human device and pharmacological studies, and advanced diagnostics for lung nodules. He has pioneered many interventional procedures in Australia, including EBUS-Cryobiopsy, CBCT-bronchoscopy and Robotic bronchoscopy.
A frequent speaker and faculty member at national and international conferences, he continues to grow his international collaborations. He is the co-supervisor of the only AABIP-accredited interventional pulmonology fellowship outside the United States, Director of the MQ Health Early Lung Cancer Detection (ELUCiD) Program, and Co-Director of the Sydney Interventional Pulmonology and Innovation Centre (SIPIC). Also, a member of the AIPPD exam writing committee, he is actively and increasingly involved in teaching and mentoring Interventional Pulmonology fellows nationally and internationally.
