Mr Troy Butler is an Animal Research Assistant working directly for the Dementia Research Centre in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University. Troy provides assitance to the seven individual teams of Professors, Doctors and PhD students within the centre. This assistance comes in the form of research support, behavioural experiments, genotyping and animal husbandry as well as advice and guidance for colony management.
Troy became an Animal Technician at the University of New South Wales in 2011, after completing his Certificate III in Animal Technology, and began working as a Research Assistant for the Dementia Research Unit, also headed by Prof. Lars Ittner, in 2016.
Troy's interests lie in the behavioural aspects of the colony and providing the support to collect the data essential for research into Dementia and Alzheimers Disease. This research is used to find novel approaches into the therapeutic treatment of Dementia and Alzheimers related symptoms.
