Originally from Spain, my career as a scholar in Translation Studies is marked by a focus on translator education, translation technologies, and translation-specific information search. My professional roots are in technical translation and software localization, a skill set I honed at iDisc Technologies in Barcelona, Spain. This practical experience was broadened through work collaborations with translation agencies such as STAR Servicios Lingüísticos and various European tech and commercial entities.
My academic journey commenced in 2005 at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and spanned until 2022. It was then that I transitioned to the University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia, as a Senior Lecturer in Translation. As of January 2024, I am proud to be part of Macquarie University's Department of Linguistics, focusing on teaching and researching technologies in translation and interpreting. Throughout my academic career, I’ve held numerous roles, contributing to both national and international research networks. I’ve been privileged to lead translation technology workshops and related research seminars at esteemed institutions, such as the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo and the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain, and The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, California.
I've also had the pleasure of teaching an array of Translation Studies courses to both undergraduates and postgraduates, covering subjects from translation theory to translation practice, human-assisted machine translation and empirical research methods in translation. My dedication to teaching excellence has been acknowledged with two prestigious Teaching Excellence Awards from the University of Auckland.
My service extends beyond the classroom to department and community engagement, where I have served in capacities such as Head of Department, PhD and Graduate Adviser, and NAATI Endorsement Coordinator, amongst others. I am particularly invested in nurturing industry ties and promoting cultural and linguistic diversity in the public sphere. As an academic consultant for New Zealand's Language Assistance Service Programme, I have helped aligned translator and interpreter certification with NAATI standards.
I've also maintained an active research agenda, reflected in my outputs and accolades, including a Recognition Award for Outstanding Research from the University of Auckland’s School of Cultures, Languages and Linguistics in 2018 and a University of Auckland Faculty of Arts Research Award in 2015.
Beyond academia, I am an avid sports enthusiast, with a particular passion for rock climbing and immersing myself in nature's tranquillity.
