Highly Commended Finalist - Vice-Chancellor's Learning and Teaching - Teaching Excellence Award - 2024

Prize: Teaching award

Description

Dwindling lecture attendance rates among final-year units, the challenges of teaching advanced programming to students with diverse skills and learning patterns, and students’ lack of engagement with the content due to their preoccupation with preparing for graduate roles were the complex issues we faced when designing a new mobile application development unit (COMP3130) for final-year students at the School of Computing in 2021. Our objective was clear – an engaging learning experience that equips final-year students with the necessary skills and knowledge for their future careers. Embracing a student-centred approach, we designed the unit with constructive alignment1 by connecting learning outcomes, assessments, and learning activities to inspire meaningful learning.
