SCMS Best Edited Collection Award

SCMS recognizes that a considerable amount of media studies scholarship is published in anthologies. The Best Edited Collection Award recognizes an outstanding collection of media studies scholarship.

Acknowledging the importance of the work of editors of multi-authored collections to our field, the SCMS Best Edited Collection Award recognizes the best edited collection published during the previous year. This award intends to further the goals of the Society by honoring an outstanding example of newly-edited scholarship (first editions only) that involve the insights of an editor or co-editors in bringing together the best work of multiple scholars in a single volume. This award is also meant to encourage new scholarship that reflects upon the traditions of collaboration and diverse perspectives in our field.

Judges' citation: "Incomplete: The Feminist Possibilities of the Unfinished Film stands as a rare field-defining collection of scholarship that turns overdue critical attention to abandoned, interrupted, fragmentary, lost, and open-ended projects. The committee unanimously agreed that Incomplete is exciting, even exhilarating, to read, offering innovative new ways of thinking about feminist filmmaking, labor, and questions surrounding conditions of production. The volume’s quality of scholarship is exceptional, and the collection is generative for other areas in the broad discipline of cinema and media studies. The committee applauds the coherence across the volume in the aggregate as Incomplete presents an overall argument across the arc of the book. Further, since its publication, the volume has achieved its ambitions of being useful as a critical tool for further scholarship. In short, Incomplete thrilled the committee who concurred that it represents an astonishing piece of scholarship, at once vital, innovative, and generative for scholarship to come."
