I was selected as a principal participant for the Study of the U.S. Institutes for Secondary Educators at the University of Montana in Missoula, MT.
The University of Montana in Missoula, MT, oversaw and administered the Study of the U.S. Institutes for Secondary Educators under the unifying theme of “Liberty, Equality, and the American Dream.” The program examined this topic through a different lens, capitalizing on the resources and culture of the area. The curriculum was based on the study of how America’s foundations and history have shaped and informed U.S. politics, economics, and society. A key cultural component of the program involved community service activities, which provided participants with first-hand experience of how volunteerism plays a vital role in U.S. civil society. The program offered multiple opportunities for follow-on engagement through professional development, grant-funded follow-on projects, social media, and, if funds and circumstances permitted, an alumni workshop. The program drew from a diverse disciplinary base and included site visits to diverse local communities and an integrated study tour to a different region of the United States.
