The World Reef Award is comparable to the preceding awards, but is reserved for a member coming from a location, social group, gender or background from within which their potential to achieve is likely to have been restricted in some way, to a greater or lesser extent. Either one or two awards will be made annually in recognition of achievement by an individual who is a member of a group apparently disadvantaged or under-represented in the field of reef science or management. The recipient is expected to give an invited talk at the next International Coral Reef Symposium following the award, will receive a certificate, and be automatically elevated to the status of ISRS Fellow
