Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The current development of Global Japanese studies must address the rise of social justice movements around the world from black lives matter to feminist or LGBTQ+ struggles. This project explores research and pedagogic methods to integrate diverse perspectives in the history of Japanese subcultures. Our team will compare the reception of manga and anime in and out of Japan and rethink the potential diversity and intersectionality allowed by the media practices surrounding Japanese subcultures. In doing so, our goal is to support future generations in the creation of a more inclusive society and knowledge production.
