2025 Global Economic Prosperity Challenge: Digital Finance for Climate Resilience in Pacific Island Nations

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

This project supports economic empowerment in Pacific Island nations by deploying a mobile-based digital finance platform that provides climate-resilient loans and savings tools, alongside accessible financial and digital literacy education. Many communities in the region remain excluded from formal financial systems and face rising climate risks. Our platform, developed with local input and designed for low-connectivity environments, enables households to access essential financial services and build adaptive capacity. Through integrated education and real-time impact tracking, the project offers a scalable, community-driven solution for advancing inclusive prosperity in climate-vulnerable regions.

Layman's description

We’re helping people in Pacific Island countries who are at risk from climate disasters and don’t have access to banks or financial support. Our project will build a simple, mobile-friendly financial app that lets people apply for small loans, save money, and learn how to manage their finances. It will also teach people how to use digital tools safely and confidently. This way, families can better prepare for floods, cyclones, and other disasters, and have the knowledge and tools to recover faster. The goal is to create a solution that works for these communities and can be used in other vulnerable places too.
