Description
Infrastructure: Dynapumps Agilent High Vacuum Pumping System and custom-built trolley
Many experimental systems in the two departments of Physics and Astronomy and AAO-Macquarie require ultra-high vacuum. Astronomical instruments shipped worldwide to observatories often must be transported in a vacuum. Timely access to an effective, fast and reliable vacuum pumping solution, complete with full-range gauge and leak detector, would fulfil a critical need shared by multiple laboratories. We request funding for a pumping station that is easily transportable between labs and achieves the required low pressures quickly and reliably. This is an enabler for multiple ongoing and future projects leading to increased high impact outputs and new astronomical hardware for export.
