Project Details
Description
Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare salivary gland cancer most frequently arising in head and neck region. ACC microenvironment exhibits low immunogenicity, favouring immune evasion. A hook-related protein, Gipie, was found to have roles in inflammation and immune response. However, Gipie is aberrantly expressed in some ACC cells. This project aims to investigate whether Gipie can prevent ACC cells from being targeted by immune cells.
Layman's description
Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare salivary gland cancer affecting the head and neck region. ACC can grow and spread if a protein, Gipie, is present. This project will study the function of Gipie in ACC cells and whether the immune system will target ACC cells if Gipie is absent.
Key findings
This research will provide insights on Gipie interacting proteins and the role of Gipie in ACC cell proliferation and apoptosis. This research will also exhibit a clearer picture of immune cells and ACC cell interaction.
