Assessing the Ambitious Reform Plans of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA): Progress and Challenges

This project will deliver high-value research and professional development opportunities on topics of priority interest to Defence by: (1) conducting a major study on the critical advances and ongoing challenges to emerge from the current ambitious reform and reorganisation plans of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), with a particular focus on joint operations and the development of deterrent and coercive capabilities across multiple domains; and (2) delivering a series of dissemination and professional development activities, including in collaboration with Women in International Security (WIIS)-Australia, targeting the Australian government strategic policy workforce as well as the interested public.
