Infrastructure Name: Malvern Panalytical Aeris Spectrometer
This application seeks to purchase a benchtop Malvern Panalytical “Aeris” X-ray
diffractometer (XRD). XRD is a non-destructive technique for rapid analysis of sample chemical compositions, physical properties and crystal structures. The instrument will significantly enhance our research capability in environmental analysis and assessment, mainly in iron-rich materials. The XRD will be used in the current and future research projects on environmental assessment of iron ore processing, composition of atmospheric particles in vicinity of industrial operations, household dust, soil and sediment contaminants from industrial discharges, ash from wildfires and volcanoes, and municipal waste.
