The overarching aim of the CRE is to create and implement an evidence-based approach for the management of patients with thus far unexplained (functional) gastrointestinal disorders. This includes risk- and pathophysiology-based stratification of patients and targeted treatments that are relevant across all domains of the health care system (including primary care). A key measure of success will be the ability to treat more patients’ successfully in primary care and avoid over-utilisation of diagnostic and therapeutic healthcare resources by patients with these conditions.
