Project Details
Description
This project will produce the first major study of Chinese Australian writing about Indigenous people, culture and country from the 19th century to the present, providing insights into the enduring relationships between Australia’s First Nations peoples and Chinese immigrants. Drawing on literary, historical, cultural, and creative research methods, it will bring to light how Chinese immigrants engage with Indigenous issues in the making of Chinese Australian identity, and how they negotiate a sense of belonging between Indigenous and settler sovereignties, home and host countries. It will better understand the role and responsibility that Chinese Australians have towards national reconciliation.
