Our aim is to develop an “objective measure” for tinnitus, i.e. a way of testing whether people experience ringing or buzzing when no external sound is present that does not rely on self-reporting. Our approach uses artificial intelligence to determine whether recordings of a person’s brain waves indicate they have tinnitus or not. We hope to develop a new clinical tool that not only determines if someone suffers from tinnitus but can also help identify the condition’s underlying pathology. The knowledge generated from this research has the potential to guide new treatment options for people with tinnitus
