    Description

This program is the first step in an innovative co-authored monograph, bringing into dialogue contemporary literary and visual cultures from the French-speaking Pacific and Indian Oceans. It aims to represent dynamics of (im)mobility within the framework of transnationalism to displace the typical hierarchies underlying language and nationalist affiliations that conventionally define literary and visual cultures of French Polynesia. At the Centre for Traditional and Contemporary Oceanic Societies (EASTCO), Tahiti, I will investigate textual and circulation practices to determine the defining characteristics of a transnational reading of Polynesian cultures before expanding this framework to other French-speaking islands of the global South.
