This project aims to test whether educators engaged in an elaborative and emotive reminiscing professional development program will increase their use of high-quality reminiscing and subsequently whether this will enhance children’s memory and emotion performance. This study is significant because it is the first study to investigate educator training in elaborative and emotive reminiscing. Many children begin school vulnerable, reminiscing has important benefits for children’s immediate and later social competence, memory and language skills. Given the important role for educators in scaffolding the socio-emotional development of young children, equipping educators with the skills to engage in quality reminiscing conversations will enhance developmental outcomes for children including independent narrative skills and emotional competence.
