Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Postgraduate Research Scholarship - Centre for Chronic Diseases of Ageing (CCDA), Woolcock Institute for Medical Research.

Details: Proposed area of research: Evaluate new therapeutic approaches to enhance sleep quality and improve brain health in people with sleep disorders and chronic respiratory disease.

Proposed approach: Conduct a proof-of-concept trial to test the effectiveness of innovative approaches using non-invasive brain stimulation to enhance sleep wave sleep and cognitive outcomes. The initial proof of concept study will employ a randomised cross over design in healthy older adults to explore the changes in deep slow wave sleep with active and sham brain stimulation. This work will inform a randomised cross over trial in patient populations of interest.

Scholarship provider Contributions: Stipend (living allowance) $34,500 (fixed rate) per year for three years. This includes one year for MRes Y2, and Years 1 and 2 of the PhD.

Macquarie Contributions: Stipend top-up (an additional living allowance on top of the scholarship provider’s contribution) for 3 years (MRes Y2 and first two years of PhD)
to make the total value of the stipend equals to iMQRES stipend rate per year. e.g. in 2024, the stipend top-up is $500 p.a., so the total value of the stipend from the Scholarship Provider and Macquarie equals $35,000 p.a. (iMQRES 2024 rate).
