Layman's description
In 2009, the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing (DOHA) funded two national prostate cancer research centres: The Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre – Queensland (APCRC-Q) based in Brisbane and the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre@Epworth based in Melbourne.
The DOHA funding established APCRC-Q as an integrated, transdisciplinary, comprehensive prostate cancer research centre to support a range of relevant translational activities for the development of prostate cancer therapeutics and biomarkers for genetic predisposition, early detection, differentiation of indolent versus aggressive disease and prognosis, and therapeutic response indicators to inform treatment options and planning. This included a strong focus on research capacity building and developing collaborative networks locally, nationally and internationally.
