Ethical VR: People’s perceptions of facial expression misrepresentation

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The use of virtual reality (VR) and avatars is increasing in a variety of domains, including in the workplace. This research proposal focuses on Topic 2 in this Request for Proposal: “Considering everyone: Future user-to-user information flow, missed signals, and marginalized groups at work”. Our overall aim is to contribute to our understanding of how people respond to misrepresented facial expressions in a workplace training context (details provided in the Methods section). Collecting this evidence will shed light on what areas of concern (or otherwise) people have regarding different types of misrepresented facial expressions and how they expect these to be advised/remedied within or outside the VR environment.
