2019 Indigenous Fulbright Scholarship
Host institution: Kanu o ka Aina Learning Ohana (KALO), Hawaii USA

A critical examination of the Kanu o ka ʻĀina New Century Public Charter School and other network charter schools that have structured an educational setting that is built on empowerment of Indigenous students through the engagement of Hawaiian cultural values to inform educational success.

This research project will involve the process of talking story with many Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian participants within these Charter Schools. Including Board members, teachers, administrators and students. These observation will be extended to include Kahoʻiwai post-secondary teacher education program that is focused on establishing Hawaiian cultural values for qualified educators of Hawaiian children.
