Project Details
Description
Australia’s neighbour, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (ARoB) in PNG is about to become the world's newest nation and the proposed reopening of a highly divisive copper mine to finance its independence raises pressing economic and political issues for PNG and Australia. People in Bougainville and in the Australian diaspora are passionate about Bougainville's future. For the next five years this collaborative, interdisciplinary and multi-sited project will explore the kind of developments they aspire to and the rationale behind such aspirations. The expected outcomes will improve understanding of Bougainvillean notions of development, facilitating better frameworks for development practices and outcomes.
