Project Details
Description
The project is a narrative nonfiction biography and cultural history which utilizes the life of an individual subject to investigate Jewish maternal and work life in the three cities of Berlin, Tel Aviv and Melbourne during critical years of European and Australian history, 1900-1949. The project’s significance is its contribution to 20thC knowledge of German Jewish mothering and diasporic exile, illuminating connections with present day mothering and child-separation by refugee, displaced, and indigenous mothers in Australia, Israel/Palestine, and Germany. Outside study will be hosted by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
