How toxic are Australian flatworms? Identification of tetrodotoxin in marine flatworms from south-eastern Australia (Platyhelminthes, Polycladida)

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Description

    Aims
    1) Confirm whether tetrodotoxin is present in common polyclad flatworms in south-eastern Australian habitats
    2) Identify the location and concentration of tetrodotoxin in polyclad flatworms and whether the chemical is stored in specific cells or organs
    3) Use bioassay-guided fractionation techniques to pose possible ecologically-relevent roles of tetrodotoxin in flatworms
