Description
Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death and a leading cause of hospitalisation in Australia. Being able to report on the burden of injury mortality, describe the epidemiological profile of injury mortality, and increase our understanding of the factors that can contribute to the risk of injury is critical to the design and evaluation of injury prevention strategies.
This research on injury mortality will examine four specific injury mechanisms and/or age-related injury mortality. These include injury-related mortality of children and young people aged 25 years or less, the impact of dementia and other comorbid conditions on deaths as a result of self-harm of individuals aged 30 years or older, poisoning-related mortality and intent among all ages, and complications of surgical and medical care.
