Knowledge Consilience for Climate Solutions and Food Security in French Polynesia and the Cook Islands through Rahui/Ra’ui management

Ra’ui / Rahui is a fundamental system of Polynesian resource management. It is practiced throughout the region and has specific formulations relating to local cultural systems. Now, as traditional Polynesian cultural systems are challenged by those of the West, it is urgent that Indigenous knowledges encoded in local cultures are preserved. As numerous Indigenous scholars and others have argued, it is these Knowledge systems that may hold key solutions to the environmental, social and health crises we are experiencing.
