This project is funded by the NSW Ministry of Health.
Project 1 Aim: To identify and synthesise measurement items and instruments to gather patient-reported data from people with intellectual disabilities.
Project 2 Aim: To identify evidence of the approaches and techniques employed in patient-reported measurement to improve participation amongst people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Design and method
Rapid Evidence Assessment (REA), an established approach in public health policy and management research for exploring broad and complex issues, will be used to address the review questions. REA rigorously follows established systematic review methodology to search and appraise existing evidence, limiting selected aspects of the review process to shorten the review timespan while still enabling the depth of current knowledge to be appraised. We will follow the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM) guideline for Rapid Evidence Assessments, with REA methodology applied to limit the review by searching only three major relevant databases in addition to pre-defined grey literature sources, extracting only the study findings specifically relevant to answering the review questions. A review protocol will be developed to guide the process that establishes eligibility criteria, exclusion criteria, the search strategy and to guide data extraction and synthesis.
