Minors on campus: Regulating the sexual safety and wellbeing of under-18s who attend Australian universities.

Project: Research

Project Details

Description

Up to 50,000 children are enrolled at Australian universities every year. University policies are generally aimed at adults; staff are not trained in care for children. This project aims to develop a pilot study of Macquarie University responses to the significant problem of campus sexual violence involving underage students. Outcomes include recommendations for refining relevant policies and procedures and embedding them in a framework that meets legislative requirements of mandatory reporting and best-practice Child-Safe Standards. The pilot will inform a nationwide study of university responses to sexual violence involving minors on campus that benefits the Australian tertiary education community.
