Developing a gene therapy for Glaucoma
The mechanisms underlying glaucoma damage are not yet clear, so treatment is still limited to lowering pressure in the eye. This project will investigate modifying the activity of an intrinsic protein found in neural tissue – Neuroserpin - using a gene delivery technique in the retina with the aim of protecting the optic nerve from degeneration.
